MISSION GREEN FUNDING AVAILABLE IN ABERMORDDU
COMMUNITY projects in Abermorddu, with an emphasis on sustainability, the environment, health and wellbeing, have a chance to share £5,000 thanks to Castle Green Homes.
The homebuilder is celebrating the opening of a sales centre at its Maes y Castell development on Wrexham Road by launching Mission Green Abermorddu, a voluntary funding initiative.
Sales director Sian Pitt explained: “There’s been a lot of work carried out behind the scenes since we secured planning approval to build new homes in Abermorddu almost two years ago. Construction is progressing well and we’re now at a stage where we’re able to release a small number of properties for sale off plan. To celebrate, we’re giving back to the community with launch of Mission Green. It’s a chance for charities, schools, not-for-profit organisations and individuals to apply for a share of £5,000 to enhance the environment and look after residents’ wellbeing.
“In other areas we’ve helped keep older people warm in the winter, provided funding towards setting up a community garden, supported schools in improving their outdoor space, funded wellbeing breakfasts for an autism charity, provided equipment for litter picks and contributed towards the cost of running a project that tackles food poverty while reducing the amount of food that goes to landfill.”
The 4.27 hectare site where Castle Green is building in Abermorddu is allocated for housing in Flintshire County Council's Local Development Plan.
Once complete, Maes y Castell will comprise 70 homes. There will be 49 private sale properties and 21 affordable homes. The affordable provision makes up 30% of the development, in accordance with Flintshire County Council policy.
An area of public open space will be provided, with hedgerow and tree planting carried out by the homebuilder.
Mission Green Abermorddu is a voluntary scheme. It’s in addition to the community investment Castle Green will make under a Section 106 agreement signed during the planning process. That funding includes almost £222,000 towards improvements at Castell Alun High School.
Under Mission Green, Castle Green wants to help a variety of projects and so will make a series of grants rather than allocating the full fund to one cause.
Applications forms are available via https://www.castlegreenhomes.uk/mission-green-community-fund-abermorddu/ and should be completed online.
The closing date for applications is midnight on April 13, 2026.
The sales centre at Maes y Castell is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 5pm. For more information see www.castlegreenhomes.uk/our-developments/north-wales/maes-y-castell.
